Elliott Gould: on Non-conformity

Bill Cosby warns: “I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.”

It would seem Elliott Gouldnever tried and, perhaps, that explains the unorthodox actor’s spectacular early success and enviable longevity. When the star of such critically-acclaimed hits as M*A*S*H, THE LONG GOODBYE and OCEAN’S ELEVEN and such indie gems as DORFMAN and IRA FINKELSTEIN’S CHRISTMAS drops in at The High Bar, he joins me in raising a toast to and raising the bar for… non-conformity, while also name-checking Mick Jagger, Groucho Marx, Irvin Kerhner, Donald Sutherland and Sir Richard Attenborough.

Mr. Gould can’t please everyone, but his insight and compassion, shared in this long-form conversation, are bound to delight you.
